KIDS MUAY THAI & KICKBOXING - Ages 5-15

TAUGHT BY DAN MCGOWAN

with KORY CHETTLE, IGOR SMIALOWICZ & JUNAYD MIAH

Muay Thai is Thai Kickboxing – the most complete form of kickboxing in the world. At MMT, our kids classes build discipline, teach real self-defence and show them the beauty of the art – and they have fun doing it.

More than a martial art

Taught properly, martial arts set kids up for anything in the real world. I started Muay Thai at 9 years old. It took me around the world, made me one of the most successful fighters to come out of the UK, and gave me the discipline and confidence to build a business. That's just one example – we see it in our kids every week.

Early Starters – Ages 5–9

We teach the fundamentals of Muay Thai alongside coordination, left and right, and a first introduction to health and fitness. Every session is gamified, so they stay engaged the whole time – but the technique they learn is the real thing.

Tuesday & Friday, 5:30–6:30pm

Juniors – Ages 10–15

Less games, more proper Muay Thai training. We keep it engaging, but at this age they need discipline – and they get it.

Monday, Wednesday & Thursday, 5:30–6:30pm

Junior Sparring – Ages 8–15

Sparring is always controlled and monitored by our coaches, so nothing gets out of hand. The focus is practising the skill set, not winning rounds. Kids need boxing gloves, shin pads and a groin guard to spar.

Saturday, 11:40am–12:40pm

Respect comes first

Every child learns about respect from their very first session. We've got it down to a T – kids with ADHD train in our classes and thrive on the structure, and we simply don't get problems with behaviour.

Prajead grading – White to Black band

We run our own kids grading syllabus, from white band to black band – known in Thai as prajead. Not every child wants to compete. Grading gives every one of them a goal to work towards.

Coached by world-ranked fighters

Junior classes are led by Daniel McGowan (2x World Champion), Kory Chettle, Igor Smialowicz and Junayd Miah, with Tim Thomas and Liam Cunningham joining regularly.

For Our classes we recommend:

  • BOXING GLOVES: 10/12oz for pads and bag work, 14/16oz for sparring (For example the Fairtex #BGV1)

  • SHIN PADS: Elastic style shins are great for beginners but leather/microfibre style shins are recommended for regular members (For example the Fairtex #SP5)
